Climate at A&W
The most important factor in determining how productive we are at work is how effectively we work with each other. At A&W, we believe that by paying attention to the development and maintenance of our working relationships we will all be more successful and the business will be more successful. We believe that having a system that helps us move towards a healthy, strong Climate makes work more enjoyable for every one of us, which again contributes to a more productive, successful business.
Few places focus on work relationships as being part of a successful business, not because they believe it does not matter, but because it seems so hard to define and work on. At A&W, however, we have chosen to be clear about the way we want to work together and we have called this our ‘Climate’. Climate is not necessarily how it ‘is’, it is how we want it ‘to be’. At A&W, we then invest time and energy at an individual level, and throughout each work group and every restaurant to work toward achieving our Climate Goals.
Here is how we've defined what we want our Climate to be:
Every day I bring my best to my work and my team.
I build a safe environment by welcoming, accepting and respecting everyone in our community.
We hustle to delight each guest with the convenience they crave.
We earn the trust of our guests and each other by always doing what’s right.
I embrace change and welcome the future with creativity and courage.
We work together as partners pursuing common goals and shared success.
We listen to understand each other.
I invite, share and act on feedback to continuously learn and improve.
I recognize, celebrate and take pride in our big and small wins.
Diversity & Inclusion
At A&W, our focus on Climate and Doing What's Right guides our principles in the recruitment pathway and in our people practices. Further, we believe that our communities and our business are nourished by diversity, and we are committed to listening and learning from each other to create a safer space for our employees as well as our guests.
Strategic Renewal
The first A&W drive-in restaurant opened in Winnipeg in 1956. An instant hit, A&W expanded to build restaurants across Canada. We've proudly served great-tasting burgers, hand-crafted onion rings and frosted mugs of famous A&W Root Beer to millions of happy customers. A&W has changed with the times, and we are committed to the ongoing strategic renewal of the business. This involves re-evaluating the longer term strategy for the business every three to five years.
Our Values
Leadership in quality ingredients has been driving A&W's industry-leading growth. In 2013, we embarked on a journey to source simple, great-tasting ingredients, farmed with care. We're proud to have high standards when it comes to our food, and you can taste it in everything we serve. We are the first national burger chain to serve beef raised without the use of hormones or steroids, and chicken and pork raised without the use of antibiotics.
Good Food Makes Good Food, but there's more to our story than that. From using compostable packaging to fundraising to support Canadians living with Multiple Sclerosis, we strive to make a positive impact in our community:
We are committed to working with farmers and animal welfare experts to ensure that animals in our supply chain are treated humanely throughout their lives.
We're on a journey to reduce waste through reducing excess packaging, composting, and the introduction of an exchangeable cup program. We're also proud to partner with Second Harvest to rescue surplus food from our restaurants to help fight food insecurity in Canada.
We want to make dining at A&W more accessible for everyone, and have partnered with the Magnusmode app to create a stress-free dining experience for guests with developmental or cognitive disabilities.
